DH

Dental Hygiene is my life. At one time it was show choir, another time it was boys. One time it was my best friends/roommates, another it was cooking. This time? It's dental hygiene, and let me tell you.. it's the most exhausting life I've had thus far. I started school a mere week and a half ago and I'm already sleep deprived and behind the game. I can't complain though, I feel SO cool every time I don my royal purple scrubs, put my hair up in a bun and put my "Ashley K. Dental Hygiene Student" name tag on. I can't help but fantasize when I'm a second year and get to sprinkle my wisdom on the scared/frantic first years.
This last Saturday our whole program went to the Yankee Dental Convention in South Boston. It was AWESOME and so professional and I felt like the coolest/most special person on the earth. I realize I've only done a semester of Dental Hygiene thus far but my knowledge has grown exponentially and I seriously can't believe how much I already know. I start seeing Real Life PATIENTS a week from tomorrow. Of course Scott will be my first patient (even though he quite frequently asks "can't you practice on someone else first so you don't hurt me?" every time I say no... no I can't) I'm getting SO excited (and really nervous too). I can't believe I've already progressed this far that I'm really working on mouths. It's exhilarating to say the least.
I LOVE the girls in my program. We hang out every day all day and it's the BEST! When we first started the program, the second years would always say "no one else really gets it except for us" and now I know why they say that because it's so completely true! Sure, Scott sees me stressed and overwhelmed but doesn't understand it all like my sweet girls. I'm so lucky to have met such wonderful people here. They are to good to me.
Anyways, there wasn't really a point to this post except to say that I love dental hygiene, I love my friends I've made, I love Boston, I love my teachers, I love teeth, and I love life.
Love Ashley

I'm glad you're in a program you love! I think about you ever time I floss my teeth :) Which is often - because I never want another cavity or a painful cleaning again!
